Watch Your Mouth

I’m fat. I’m ugly. I can’t believe that. My dad told me that I would never amount to anything and, boy, was he right! There is no way that God could ever love me or use me for His Kingdom after I did that. Have you ever heard these before? Worse yet, do you find yourself in this rut of saying these kinds of things from time to time? If so, you aren’t alone. Many people have struggled with this, but I have some really great news for you today.
First of all, let me share with you what might be considered a tough pill to swallow. Your words are of utmost importance. Whether you like it or not, words run things in this world. There is a part that God plays and a part that you play in your relationship with Him. It’s a very simple and beautiful thing to be a part of when understood correctly but can lead to a great deal of confusion when misunderstood. Please consider a couple of verses of scripture with me.
It is pretty obvious to anyone who has read God’s Word and believes it that God is the amazing Creator of everything. Throughout time, He has spoken clearly. With words of dominion and authority, He created the worlds. He used faith-filled words to fill this atmosphere with everything that mankind would ever need to not only survive but thrive in abundance. Hebrews 1:3 says that God upholds “all things by the word of His power.” It’s vital for us to understand that His words didn’t just create this planet and everything that we see, but they also have the power behind them to uphold each and every one of those things for eternity.
Not only did God create with His words, He also has a plan that He has ordained from the beginning of time. This plan includes everything from the remission of your sin to the blueprint He has in mind for your life, the empowerment He has for you to walk out each aspect of His victorious strategy for you, and all the fruit of the Spirit to sustain you along the way. And this is just the beginning of the long list of things the Lord has planned for you. The good news is that it is all recorded in Heaven. Psalm 119:89 says, “Forever, O Lord, your word is settled in Heaven.” Do you see that tremendous reality? His Word is SETTLED in Heaven! Forever. What a promise.
But there remains a problem for most believers. Sure, His Word is settled in Heaven, but many don’t see the corresponding effects of this in their lives right here on Earth. Why is that? Because many Christians have failed to settle His Word in their hearts and establish it in their own lives. That is our job to do. Not God’s. How do I know that? Jesus specifically instructed His disciples to include this when they pray; “Your Kingdom come, your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.”
This is where the good news that I promised comes into play. You see, maybe you have been stuck in a rut of calling things how you see them. I know a lot of people that live life that way. But they are seeing with the wrong eyes. You need to have spiritual eyes and see what the Lord has declared over you and over your life. Then, you declare those things for yourself. You find out what your Heavenly Father has said about you and then you say about you what He has said about you. Maybe you are saying, “WOW, Anthony, you sure make that sound simple.” If that’s you today, then I say, “Glory be to God! You got it!!!”
It is simple, my friends. It may not always be easy on your flesh to follow this pattern, but it most-certainly is simple! God designed it that way so that even a child can live like He has designed. Stop using your words to enforce defeat and the lies of the enemy in your life. Instead, determine that you will come into agreement with the One who is never wrong. Step out in simple faith and harness the power of your words to enforce God’s overcoming victory in your life today!
